We depart from the Riviera Maya early to enjoy one of the wonders of the modern world as soon as it opens: Chichen Itza. Your specialized guide will explain everything about the marvels of this grandiose site and the Mayan civilization. Then, we will refresh ourselves with a swim in one of the beautiful clear water cenotes in the area before indulging in Yucatecan gastronomy in the charming colonial town of Valladolid. Here, we can visit the chocolate museum, see the convent and explore the historic center where we will spend the night in a charming hotel.
We will start our day by visiting the market of Valladolid where we can taste several local products. Then, we will visit the famous pink salt flats of Las Coloradas before reaching the fishing village of Rio Lagartos, on the edge of the best birdwatching reserve in the peninsula. Here, we will take a private boat tour at sunset to observe pink flamingos, spoonbills, herons, ospreys, kingfishers, crocodiles, and many other species. We will spend the night in a hotel facing the lagoon.
We will visit the mangrove of San Felipe, the village marking the beginning of the Rio Lagartos reserve. Then, we will visit the superb archaeological site of Ek Balam with its beautifully preserved stucco frieze. We will enjoy a typical meal from the region and make a stop at a beautiful cenote before returning to the Riviera Maya.
