PROGRAM
Day 1
Our first stop will be Coba, to visit this famous archaeological site nestled in the middle of the jungle. A tourist site indeed, but rich in history and nature. We will explore this site by bike or “mayan limo” to not miss anything of this grandiose city. We will visit a superb cenote for swimming, before tasting several Yucatecan specialties. In the afternoon, we will visit the spider monkey reserve: a vast protected area where we will take a short hike in the jungle to search for these beautiful primates. We will go canoeing on the lake and even try a zip line. Then, we will head to a nearby Maya village where we will spend the next 2 nights in rustic and comfortable cabins.
Day 2
In the village, a family has created a conservation center for the white-tailed deer, the ocellated turkey, the famous Mayan Melipona bees, and a few other species. Here, we will spend the morning getting to know the project and even participating in various tasks such as animal feeding. Then, we will visit a family living away from other villages to enjoy a typical meal in a green setting. In the afternoon, we will visit another Maya community that preserves a beautiful part of the jungle, which we will explore through hiking, canoeing, zip-lining, and even rappelling down into a stunning cenote. We will spend our second night in the Maya village.
Days 3 et 4
Jungle Trek 2 days / 1 night. Today, we depart for a community where a full breakfast awaits us before the trek. Afterward, we’ll embark on our hike through the jungle, passing by 3 water points where we might encounter birds, frogs, turtles, and many other species. We’ll have a picnic along the way before reaching our campsite, where we’ll set up hammocks protected by mosquito nets for a magical night in nature. Dinner over a wood fire prepared with the help of our Maya friends and a nighttime walk around the camp will conclude a timeless day. The next day, after the return hike, a hearty meal awaits us at the home of one of our guide-sherpas’ families.
