PROGRAM
Day 1
We will start our journey with a visit to the archaeological site perched on the Caribbean coast, the most photogenic of all Mayan sites: Tulum. We will continue our journey into the jungle to visit Coba by bike or “mayan-limo”, a major site from the classical period. During lunch, we will savor several typical Yucatecan dishes before a refreshing bath in a cenote. Finally, we will arrive in the colonial town of Valladolid where we will spend the night in a charming hotel located in the historic center.
Day 2
Early in the morning, Valladolid’s market will spoil us with flavors and aromas. Then, we will hit the road for one of the New Seven Wonders of the World: Chichen Itza. Your specialized guide will explain everything about the marvels of this grandiose site and the Mayan civilization, right from the opening, before the massive arrival of visitors.
We will then head north on the peninsula, taste new typical dishes, and especially see the famous pink salt flats of Las Coloradas. Finally, we will reach the fishing village of Rio Lagartos, on the edge of the best birdwatching reserve in the peninsula. We will spend the night in a hotel facing the lagoon.
Day 3
It is in the early morning, when bird activity is at its peak, that we will take a private boat tour to observe pink flamingos, spoonbills, herons, ospreys, kingfishers, crocodiles, and many other species. We will visit the mangrove of San Felipe, the village marking the beginning of the Ria Lagartos reserve. Then, after a traditional meal with a Mayan family, we will visit a dry cave where traces of the ancient Maya remain in the form of pottery and bones. We will head to another Mayan village to spend the night in rustic but comfortable cabins.
Day 4
We will set off to visit the spider monkey reserve. A short hike will allow us to search for these beautiful primates. We will also go canoeing on the lake and even try zip-lining for the most adventurous! Then, we will visit a Maya family living away from other villages to enjoy another typical meal before our now usual swim in the cenote. Finally, we will hit the road back.
